Trip to Darjeeling, part 2

These are some shots on our way up the mountain to Darjeeling. From the plain we drove 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Winding up the narrow roads, on and on, you began to think there could never be a city of any size this far up in the mountains. We passed tea gardens (plantations) growing on the steep hillsides, some terraced, some just frighteningly steep. Finally we arrived, and in the bottom row are some of the first sights of the city. It is a most amazing site. Buildings that are one story at street level are 3, 4, 5 stories high on the hill side. I swore I wouldn't put a foot into a building like the one on the right, though I imagine I did, as they look normal from the street.
