Camel Trivia

The guide told us a couple of interesting tidbits I thought I'd add.

One is that many camel handlers smoke bidis; sort of like cigarettes, except they are made with whole leaves rolled up and have no paper outside. When they smoke, their camels come very close, and they blow their exhaled smoke into the camel's nostrils. He demonstrated the camel's appreciative expression when they got their "smoke" too.

The other tidbit is that camels are creatures of habit. So some drivers that make the same trip every day with their camels get to the point where they can take a nap on the cart and sleep all the way to their destination, waking only when the camel cart comes to a stop.
